After making a connection with a local train and a bus, I arrived in Jiufen, known for the stage of the movie "Spirited Away". You can access from Taipei only for one and a half hours, so it's possible to go on a day trip. Evening light up in old street starts around 6. I came a little early, so decided to take a walk around here.
I happened to find a gallery in a back alley. The atmosphere seemed difficult to enter, but I caught a glimpse of the artworks from a window, and I loved the taste so much, so decided to enter.
There was an old man inside. According to him, all the photographs and paintings were his works. The pictures were captured with film cameras and he showed me photos taken throughout Taiwan.
One picture caught my eyes. It was a picture of the coast taken in 1970s. The land eroded by wind and rain for a long time created a pattern that looked like an abstract painting.
While viewing the artwork, the time I had a conversation with him remained in my heart.
I left the gallery and thought about taking a tea break somewhere nearby. While I was walking and searching for a cafe, I came across many cats on the street (some of them were sleeping). The Houtong village near Jiufen is famous for its cat village.
I found a small square with a stunning view. I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat on a bench. There were also two cats here. I enjoyed a coffee with cats and waited for the sunset.
In the evening, the old street were illuminated with red lanterns, which made me feel like being in the another world. In fact, there were too many tourists at night, and I couldn't take my time enjoying the view.
The encounter of the gallery, and the slow afternoon with cats and coffee, the time I spent during the daytime is my unforgettable experience in Jiufen.
